County Fairs plan car show series

Six area county fairs are teaming up on a performance car and truck show series that will be held at county fairs in July and August. Post-1985 sport import, domestic and Euro cars and sport trucks and off-road trucks will be judged at the Monroe, Ontario, Livingston at Caledonia, Genesee, Orleans and Wayne County fairs.

Each fair will judge one category: interiors, exteriors, engines and sound and lights. Competitors will accumulate points to win a grand prize, sponsored by Skuse Street Customs, at the final fair in Wayne County on August 10. Individual fairs will also offer prizes and trophies.

County fair car show dates are:

  • Monroe on July 14 at 6 p.m.
  • Genesee on July 24 at 8
  • Ontario on July 27 at 7
  • Orleans on July 31 at 11:30
  • Caledonia on August 4 at 7
  • Wayne on August 10 at 7

Competitors may enter any or all of the fairs, but 10 additional points are given for each fair entered, with those points added to the final tally.

The entry fee is $15 per car at each fair or $45 for a season's pass. The fee includes entry to the car show for the driver and passenger as well as to the county fair. Season passes are sold in advance or at the day of show at the Monroe, Genesee and Ontario fairs.

Pre-entry is encouraged although day of show entries will be taken at all six fairs.

This is the first time that New York State county fairs have collaborated on an event that will be carried out at all of the fairs. According to Fran Tepper, District Director for the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs, the other fairs in the state are interested in seeing how this collaborative effort will work. By pooling advertising dollars, volunteers and clout as a regional event, the county fairs hope to leverage their resources and attract a new audience to the fairs.
