Newark boys advance to semi-finals

The Newark Reds Varsity boys basketball team picked up its seventh straight victory with a 68 - 44 win over Marshall High school Friday.

The Reds advance to tonight's semi-final game against the number one seeded Class A Batavia squad at the Blue Cross Arena. Batavia is currently 18-1. The game is set for 5:45 p.m.

Newark 15-5 on the year got off to a great start Friday as Newark senior Mychal Wilkes exploded for 27 points (seven three- pointers and 18 first-half points. The senior added nine rebounds and seven assists in the game. Newark took the early first period lead 21-11.

In the second quarter, the Reds continued the onslaught, leading 39-23 at halftime. Newark held a 58-32 lead after three periods.

Wilkes was game high with 27 points. Newark teammate Scott Smith added 12 points.
