'Hello, Dolly!' will take stage at NRW
Two 7:30 p.m. performances are scheduled at the North Rose-Wolcott High School auditorium on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. Tickets are $5 and are available through cast members and by calling the High School at 594-3100. The show is directed by Mia Breitkopf (high school choral music) and Ron Patrick (high school English) with choreography and costumes by Roberta Ciopyk and pit band direction by Michael Witkiewitz (high school instrumental music). Kelly Shipley (high school art) is directing the high school's Theater Design class in designing and constructing the sets. Hello, Dolly! is an upbeat and uplifting musical that depicts the story of illustrious Mrs. Dolly Levi's (Jillian Sherwin) efforts to marry the gruff half-a-millionaire, Horace Vandergelder (Ronald Parisi) so she can spread his wealth around Yonkers, in the 1890's. Along the way, Dolly plays matchmaker to a young millineress, Widow Molloy (Rosanne Milem), and Vandergelder's head clerk, Cornelius Hackl (Brandon Doyle). Dolly also manages to match up Cornelius' assistant, Barnaby Tucker (Daniel Nau), with Mrs. Molloy's assistant, Minnie Fay (Sarah Ciopyk); and starving artist, Ambrose Kemper (Dylan Frey), with weepy Ermengarde (Kristin Whitcomb), Vandergelder's niece. Craig Packard is cast as German-accented waiter, Rudolph Reisenweber, Adrienne DiLella plays bawdy Ernestina Money, and many other students are involved in this challenging show. The large cast of the musical represents students from every high school grade level. Memorable songs include Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Hello, Dolly!, Ribbons Down My Back, Elegance, Before The Parade Passes By, It Only Takes A Moment, and So Long, Dearie. The musical is by Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman and is based on the play The Matchmaker by Thorton Wilder. The NRW production of Hello, Dolly! is participating in the Rochester Broadway Theatre League's Stars of Tomorrow, a program that celebrates the high school musical with a gala awards ceremony scheduled for June 6, at the Auditorium Center in Rochester.
