MORE drainage problems in our neighborhood. Remember the washer and dryer that got knocked out on Christmas Eve with the flood? Well, my new set has died with the water back-up last Wednesday!

I received a note that John and Eileen Ballesty's vacation began with a flight to Reno, Nevada where they visited the Donner Pass. The scenery was fabulous. Then they traveled on to Virginia City, of Bonanza fame, took in Carson City and Lake Tahoe, another scenic location. They spent some time in Las Vegas before driving out to the west coast spending time in Camarillo with a former St. Gregory's pastor, Fr. John Morgan. On to Hearst Castle and back to Las Vegas for a few days before heading home to Marion.

Marion American Legion Auxiliary has winter projects for anyone interested in helping the community. The first project, 'Tostie Toe' is for all knitters and crocheters. Tostie toes are slippers for the veterans at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Canandaigua. The auxiliary has patterns and can also get yarn. For more information contact Donna Prentice at 926.4835. Tostie Toes can be dropped off at the Library or at the Legion Post on Witherden Road.

Another project is 'Operation Crayon' to help the children of Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq, who are in great need of school supplies. The auxiliary will be putting collection boxes in the Library and at the Legion. They can be filled with pens, pencils, notepads, paper, rulers and any other school supplies. Donations will be shipped to Fort Bragg and the wives of overseas soldiers will sort and ship them to the soldiers and clergy in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia.

East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church joined Second Reformed Church on March 10 in a service of prayer for crops and industry. Rev. Richard Oberg preached a meditation. Offering will benefit Marion Food Pantry.

Leighton and Dorothy Wiant recently returned from a soul-warming trip to Puerto Rico and islands south. Traveling with friends, Susie and Phil Earl, of Newark, the foursome boarded a Princess Line Cruise Ship in San Juan and traveled to several Caribbean Islands. Sun, surf, sand and sea were a welcoming respite from winter's icy hold in Wayne County, says Dorothy. The islands' friendly people, tropical vegetation, new exotic sights and comfortable temperatures made the trip a pleasant experience.
