Grover Cleveland overpowers the Reds

Senior Nathan Colon ready to scoreThe long, joyous ride of the Newark Reds basketball season ended Friday night (March 12).

Newark lost a tough 73-64 decision to Grover Cleveland High school in the Class A State quarterfinal game at Buffalo State College.

The Reds trailed early in the game and were behind 48-32 at halftime. Newark (17-6 this season) trailed by 18 points in the second half.

Senior Mychal Wilkes hit his fourth 3-pointer to cut the lead to 63-59 with 5:15 remaining in the game.

Grover Cleveland claimed the victory and a berth in the Final Four at Glens Falls.

Wilkes finished with 18 points including eight rebounds and seven assists.

Coach Ron Ceravolo called the Grover Cleveland Presidents 'the most talented team' he had seen this season.
