It is good to see Marian Gardner out and around town.

Welcome home to Loretta and Dennis Van Strien from their place in Florida.

The last roast beef supper at the Marion Legion Home, for this season, is Friday, May 14.

'Homemade fly traps, in days past, which in summer always sat on the window sills. They were made from a glass tumbler and a piece of cardboard. The cardboard had a small hole cut out in the center and was laid over the top of the tumbler. Soapy water was put in the tumbler and molasses rubbed on the under side of the cardboard. These fly traps came next to soft soap in the knowledge of nauseous looking things. The sides of the tumbler were stained. In the viscous gray liquid flabby dead flies floated. Live flies buzzed frantically in the small space between the water and the cardboard.'

May 1931 Article : Marion Firemen have a project in view that will fill a long felt want in the town, if carried out successfully.

For some time it has been the desire of the members of the Fire Department to acquire property for a village park.

At present they are negotiating for the purchase of several small pieces of land, parts in the rear of pieces of property facing Maple Avenue and Mill Street, hoping to purchase about four acres in all for a park.

If the deal is consummated, the park will be centrally located in the rear of Grange Hall grounds. A public entrance will be gained from both Maple Avenue and Mill Street, which will be very convenient to residents in all parts of the village. It was hoped the deal would be closed before the Enterprise is published this week, but there is a little delay in regard to one piece of property. This enterprising spirit of the firemen is greatly appreciated by their townsmen, and it is hoped the announcement that Marion has a Village Park will soon be possible.

Regarding an item in last week's column: the Marion Cooperative Creamery Co. was organized in 1900 with President, Riley Sanford; Secretary and Manager, C.N. Stearns; Treasurer, H.M. Winslow.

A benefit for Alice Erb will be held June 5 at the Marion American Legion. Food, fun and live bands to help celebrate the wonderful life of everyone's mom!

MOTHERS:

You mean so much, dear Mother,

How can I ever say

The many, many thank-yous

That are in my heart today?

'Happy Mother's Day to All Mothers!'

Mother's Day is a popular occasion, warm and joyful in spirit. Naturally enough however, what was begun as a religious service has expanded into a secular, and commercially successful, event. Flowers and gifts are often the order of the day; and greetings are designed to be sent, not only to one's own mother, but also to grandmothers, aunts, mothers of wives and sweethearts, and, for that matter, to anyone who merits the accolades of motherhood.

The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble traveled to Annapolis, MD, to participate in the Classic Music Festival. National judges evaluated the bands. The Concert Band received an Excellent rating. The Wind Ensemble received the highest rating of Superior. In addition to the activities, students visited the city of Annapolis and attended a concert of the Naval Academy Glee Club. The students also visited the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and other sites.

For the first time in many years, Gord and I were surprised with a lovely 'May Basket' at our back door on May 1. Lovely delicious smelling flowers were enclosed. (The card said, 'To Grandma & Grandpa').

Dear Dan, The leaves are out on our maple trees, so we can't see the First Church.

Arts Alive Elementary Art Show is May 13 at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. is the fifth and sixth grade chorus concert.

Marion Masons will be having a Chicken BBQ on May 8 from 3:30 until gone. Tickets are $7 and $3.50. There will also be a Pie Sale.
