Read a book; join discussion

On Monday evening, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the Newark Public Library, the best-selling novel, 'The Secret Life of Bees,' written by Sue Monk Kidd, will come under discussion by the Beyond the Book Club members.

The action begins in the early 1960's, when Lily Owens, living on a peach farm in South Carolina with her harsh, unyielding father, has shaped her entire life around one devastating blurred memory - the afternoon her mother was killed, when Lily was only four years old. We follow Lily and her 'adopted' mother, RosaleenX through gritty escapades in a South still beset by prejudice and harshly drawn codes of conduct.
