Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Gosh, so much rain in so little time and a lot of flooding. (I wonder if people who have a boat in the driveway feel more secure.) I didn't want Oscar to be afraid of the thunder, but he is just the opposite. He barks at the thunder, at a Morning Dove in the plant box, at the vacuum cleaner... maybe he just likes to hear himself bark.

Jacob Spencer, originally from Marion, is being deployed. Here is his e-mail address (I'm sure he'd love to hear from people back home):

BLACKKNIGHT92@SEABEE.NAVY.MIL

When you have the chance, drop him a note. I'm sure he will appreciate it. Remember all our men and women who are protecting our country.

There are lots of Memorial Day events taking place this weekend. In Williamson tomorrow, there will be a live telecast from Washington, D.C. of the World War II Memorial Dedication. The Williamson American Legion Post will present the broadcast in the High School Auditorium at 12:30. Free admission and open to the public. Be a part of this historic event.

On Monday, May 31, the Sodus Memorial Day Parade forms at Sodus High; steps off at 9:30 a.m.(Seems like yesterday we were in it for Scouts. Al Dobbin was one of the men who did the gun salute. The kids would all cover their ears and then race for the shell.)

Williamson Town Historian Chet Peters will conduct a walking tour of Lakeview Cemetery on Memorial Day (Monday, May 31) at 2:30 p.m.

The Williamson Sr. Citizens will meet Wednesday (June 2) at the Legion Hall at noon. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service. Entertainment that day will be Bingo.

Also on Wednesday, (June 2), the Pultneyville Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Williamson Library. The meeting will feature Joyce Lehmann, author of The Migrant History of Wayne County. Check out www.pultneyvillehistoricalsociety.org

Sodus Central School's Class of 1974 is planning a 30th Reunion. If you need information, contact Anne L'Hommedieu at alhommedieu@hotmail.com

Next Saturday is the Sodus Bay Yacht Club's Antique & Classic Boat Show. There will be an Open House all day, and, if weather permits, the Boat Parade will be at 3:30.

Also next Saturday is the Sodus Point Fire Department's Pot of Gold Dinner & fundraiser. If you don't have your ticket yet, call Bill Kallusch at 315.483.6425.

Thank you, Ruth, for this recipe

Have a great weekend. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate for those of you having picnics. I hope to hear from you soon and again, remember the family members who would love to be with us on Memorial Day but are busy keeping us safe.
