Honoring heroes in Newark on Veterans Day

veterans Veterans and citizens of Newark observed Veterans Day 2004 with a parade, ceremony in Central Park and open houses at the Legion and VFW.

Fred Pirelli, Lt. Col. USAR (Retired) recognized the Veterans, and the invocation was given by Chaplain James Rooney of the VFW.

The Newark Fire Department sounded their air horn at 11 a.m., to remember 'the Armistice,' the end of World War I.


veterans Members of the Veterans Honor Guard presented arms. Guest speakers were American Legion Post #286 Commander Corky Ridley and VFW #2883 Commander Norm VanDemortel. They are shown with Fred Pirelli and George Smith, Chaplain of American Legion.

The National Anthem and Taps were played by volunteer Newark High School Band members, directed by Dave Schwind.
