Fall Fiber Event with llamas, alpacas

The Finger Lakes Fall Fiber Tour is set for October 9 and 10 at Spirit Wind Farm in Marion, from 10 to 4 daily. This event celebrates the New York State Llama & Alpaca Days.

There are 11 alpaca farms in The Alpaca Network. Learn about the rewarding lifestyle & financial advantages of alpaca ownership. Many of the farms are offering a variety of fun-filled events, as well as animal & fiber demonstrations. Alpaca apparel, processed batts, roving, yarn and raw fleeces will be available for purchase at many of the farms.

Spirit Wind Farm, established in 1999, is located outside of Marion. The herd is kept by Karin Young at 4505 Smith Road, 926.5427.

Her herd is diverse in bloodlines, as well as color and breeding for excellence in fleece characteristics is critical to us; specifically fineness, uniformity, density, luster and staple length.

They process and market their own fiber. With selective breeding program and hands-on approach, they are focused on breeding our alpacas to their full potential in fiber, conformation, health and temperament.

'We invite you to discover first hand, the magic of alpacas and the lifestyle that we love. We welcome you to contact us with questions or to schedule a farm visit,' said Young.
