Oscar has barked constantly since he finished his nap this afternoon. Now I need one. I had gotten him a cute little fleecy jacket with fringe on it and this morning when I took him out for his morning walk, he gracefully walked out of the front sleeves of it and kept walking. He doesn't care about fashion, just getting his morning walk in. During the winter, he may not be as excited about his morning stroll. I know I won't be.

From Larry:

'We know there's a need for family-friendly Halloween events. What could be friendlier than balloons? We'll show you the monsters that Halloween is known for, with surprises around every corner. But rest assured, nothing will jump out at you. If your jaw hits the floor when you walk in, it will be due to the awe of the creation, not because you'll fall over in fear. The attraction will be suitable for family members of all ages. For the late night crowd: We also understand that some of our audience may just want to be scared and spooked. Late every night, the Fun House will become a Haunted House. We'll make it worth your while to stay up late.'

Debra Ross needs party ideas:

'Well, I've come to the conclusion that a 'birthday party location and comments' page would be a useful resource for Rochester-area parents. So, those of you who have had great birthday party experiences or neat ideas for where to hold parties, could you please send them to me at

suggestions@KidsOutAndAbout.com

(Some of you sent great ones last winter, and don't worry, I still have these!) Just as a well-deserved plug to the RMSC: My daughter had her 5th birthday party, a 'space' theme, at the Rochester Museum & Science Center last month and it was great. The staff were fun and professional, and I didn't have to do a thing. (Well, ok, that was me, up at 1 a.m. the night before, frosting the individual planet-shaped birthday cupcakes for each kid - red food coloring for Jupiter's storm, etc. But that was MY obsession, not the RMSC's doing.)'(Sounds like a fun idea. She does such a nice job with the web site.)

Have a great week and have fun with all the fall and Halloween activities. It's fun to have candles in a safe place and watch tv by firelight - adds a nice soft glow while you and the family eat popcorn. There are fall scented candles, such as pumpkin to set the mood of fall. There are many Halloween puzzles and coloring books, as well as coloring pages on the computer sites - another fun way to spend time with the kids. That time of year when it's nice to get the pjs on early, pull up the fleece lap blanket or afghan blanket Mom or Gramma made and cozy up with a good show or book.

How do you celebrate the fall season? Write to me
