SWCD receives 1600 used tires

After finding more than 50 tires illegally dumped in a creek, staff of the Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) decided it was necessary to provide the public with a means to 'properly' dispose of unwanted tires.

SWCD held an event on October 2, where the public could take unwanted tires for drop-off. Charging only one dollar for each tire, the Conservation District registered 103 people and more than 1600 tires.

The tires were then transported to a recycling facility where they will be re-used for steel and rubber products. The event was so successful, it is likely that the SWCD will provide this service on an annual basis.
