Entertainment at the Harvest Auction Day at East Palmyra Christian School was provided by the school band. Rousing tunes helped with the joyful atmosphere of the day. Be sure to watch for next year's celebration.

Did you realize that 'SNICKERS' is the No. 1 candy bar sold in the United States and Russia?

Marion Homecoming Court members are: Tara Pettinato & Brian Rich, Tory Ellison & Sean Hanshaw, Melissa Cummings & Nick Jackson and Ashley Cornell & Zach Bartlett. The King & Queen were Krystal Adriaansen & Josh Weis.

Ramona Rachow is recuperating from a broken arm.

With the anticipation of moving the Marion Museum across the street to 'Jennie's House,' Brian Adriaansen camcorded the six upstairs rooms so we will always have a record of how it used to be, 'in the olden days.'

How come we are always a little short of time to do a project the first time, but somehow find the time to do it over? (I'm thinking of the white lines for parking ... downtown).

'In the good old days, people quit spending when they ran out of money.'

October 11, 1913: An excavating machine has arrived which will hasten the digging of trenches for the pipes for the water works.

October 20 is the Junior-Senior High School Open House at 7 p.m.

Thanks to Don Leno who has contributed a number of advertising merchandise given by Marion businesses in past years.

Marion Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary Spaghetti Dinner will be Saturday, October 23 from 4:30 p.m. until sold out.

On October 19 - The Wayne County Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting The 7th District Auxiliary Officers with a visitation at the Williamson Post #394. All County Legion Auxiliary members are to attend. Bring a dish to pass for the 6:30 dinner.

Dropping by to Spend the Day

There was once a friendly custom
That seems to have gone away;
A friend would arrive at our house,
'Dropping by to spend the day'

It usually was a lady
With embroidery in her hand,
And perhaps a little present
Of some jelly or some jam.

Invitations were not given,
But the twinkle in her eyes
Showed she knew that we'd be happy
At the wonderful surprise!

We'd ensconce her in a rocker;
Mother brought her handiwork out,
And they'd stitch to conversation
Of the neighbors 'round about.

After lunch and on toward sunset,
Our good-byes we'd fondly say,
As we've done to that dear custom
Of 'Dropping by to spend the day.' - Louise Hogue of Holcomb, Missouri
