Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

'The best way to get back on your feet is to miss two car payments.'

I have some miniature chamber pots, standard chamber pots and some large chamber pots, a selection of miniature outhouses, articles, poems, corn cobs, Sears Roebuck Catalogs, pictures and remembrances of days past when life seemed simpler somehow.

Since there is an old-time connection, I am planning to show my 'collection' near Halloween, on October 25, when I will have the Marion Museum open from 1 to 3.

Our Senior Citizens will have a Halloween lunch on October 26 at 1 p.m. at the Yellow Mills Restaurant. All seniors in Marion are welcome. You must call 926.4494 for reservations.

The S.A.C. will be holding their monthly meeting in the Marion Legion Hall on October 25.

The next Safe Driving Course will be on November 3 and 4, from 6-10 p.m. at the Marion American Legion. The course will take points off your license and could reduce your vehicle insurance costs. Please call Al Lucas at 524.9455. Cost is $10 per person.

As in other years, my Christmas cactus is going to blossom for the Halloween season.

Try this recipe for 'Boo Beverage' for your Halloween party:

  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 pints orange sherbet
  • 4 medium ripe bananas
  • 2 cups whipped topping
  1. 18 miniature chocolate chips

In four batches, process the orange juice, milk, sherbet and bananas in a blender until smooth. Pour into glasses. Cut a hole in the corner of a plastic bag - fill with whipped topping. Pipe a ghost shape on top of each beverage. Position chocolate chips for eyes; makes nine servings.

November 2, 1957 - Parent bulletins were sent home to all children in grades K through 12 on Wednesday as is the custom every two weeks. The bulletins let families know the menus to be served and all school activities or items of information for the parents.

Today - Roller Skating, sponsored by the Marion PTA. 7-8:30 p.m. in the Marion Elementary School gym. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Leaning Barn at 3909 North Main Street, Marion will be hosting a 24th Annual Holiday Open House on Friday, November 5 from 8-6 p.m.; Saturday, November 6 from 8-6 p.m. & Sunday, November 7 from Noon - 5 p.m. Featuring our Famous Hot Mulled Cider & Homemade Cookies.

Gifts and door prizes. They'll be CLOSED November 1-4 to prepare for the open house.
