'Wild Wings' visit Newark Middle School

1098975749819_4.jpg (189782 bytes) Wild Wings, a not-for-profit educational organization in Hilton, visited Newark Middle School Wednesday.

Wild Wings houses and cares for permanently injured, non-releasable birds of prey (raptors). The NMS Student Council paid for the assembly.

1098975749819_5.jpg (101526 bytes)Wild Wings Director Ellen Post holds Melinda, a barn owl named after Melinda Ardia. The former Newark Middle School science teacher and staunch environmentalist was killed in a car accident in the mid-1990s, in the early stages of her promising career.

Post holds Barf, a turkey vulture who is showing off his six-foot wing span.

Tanya Bertram of Wild Wings holds a great horned owl named Gho. She also shows off Amber, a Red-Tailed Hawk.
