Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Halloween will be here soon (good thing, too... it's hard to stay out of the candy). Then it'll be time to look for Thanksgiving things which, from what I've seen, are hard to find. I'm trying to stay away from getting the Christmas things, so I find myself peeking at the snowmen things at the CVS. (And, as we all know, the snowmen will be in style for many months to come. And they are soo cute.)

What's up with Ralph and Betty Everdyke in Florida?

Yesterday, Sunday Oct. 24th, we took a drive to see Ron and Micki Fagner at their home. They live in a complex called Nature's Edge that is out in the country near Lake Wales. I think I have told you before that I had not seen too much major damage in our area except for some flooded areas. Well, we saw it when we got to their area. They were affected by 3 of the 4 hurricanes we had in Florida. The one that did the most damage in their area was Charlie. We saw a lot of trees down and homes with roofs damaged and some places that were completely destroyed. They were lucky in that they did not receive as much damage as a lot of their neighbors. Some siding was taken off when the awning over the front of the house was blown off. Lots of trees were blown down in their back yard, but luckily none of them fell on their home. We had a very nice visit and it was nice to see them again. The gas prices are starting to go up down here also. I bought gas for $1.91 at Sam's Club yesterday, but I have seen quite a few places where the prices were over $2.00 a gallon. That's it for this time. Ralph

A fun recipe to try:

Light Boo Cups

  • 3-1/4 cups cold fat free milk
  • 2 pkg. (4-serving size each) JELL-O Chocolate Flavor Fat Free Sugar Free Instant Reduced Calorie Pudding & Pie Filling
  • 1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP FREE Whipped Topping, thawed, divided
  • 1 pkg. (6-1/2 oz.) SNACKWELL'S Reduced Fat Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, crushed, divided
  • 30 miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

POUR milk into large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes or until well blended. Gently stir in 1/2 of the whipped topping and 1/2 of the crushed cookies. SPOON 1 Tbsp. of the remaining crushed cookies into each of 15 individual cups. Spoon pudding mixture evenly into cups; top with remaining crushed cookies. DROP remaining whipped topping by spoonfuls onto desserts to create 'ghosts.' Decorate with chocolate chips to create 'eyes.' Refrigerate until ready to serve. Watch the ghosts disappear! Store leftover desserts in refrigerator.

KRAFT KITCHENS TIPS

Take a Shortcut: Instead of dropping spoonfuls of whipped topping, fill sealable plastic bag with remaining whipped topping; seal bag. Using scissors, diagonally snip off one corner from bottom of bag. Squeeze out topping to create 'ghosts.'

You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this Halloween favorite - a sweet treat that can help you eat right.

Don't forget Dinner:

Halloween Pizza

  • 1 pkg. (20.5 oz.) TOMBSTONE Original Extra Cheese Pizza
  • 2 Tbsp. KRAFT 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Few drops of food coloring, any color

PREPARE pizza as directed on package. MEANWHILE, mix cheese with food coloring until evenly tinted. PLACE open-topped Halloween cookie cutters or stencils over hot pizza. (Careful, pizza will be hot!) Sprinkle cheese lightly into cookie cutters. Lift off cookie cutters with both hands to reveal design. Sounds like fun.

Congratulations to Michelle Malone and Bryan Trimbly, who will be getting married on Halloween. How fun (and they will never forget when their anniversaries are).

Happy Halloween birthday to Jeremy Pike .

Jake tried to send a picture from Iraq but I'm still looking for it. (Remember our guys and gals who are in the Middle East and other parts of the world keeping us safe.)

Have a great time trick or treating. It's so much fun when all the little tiny trick or treaters come to the door and aren't really sure what's going on but don't seem to mind the candy you put in their bags. Enjoy the TV specials that are on. There are a lot of cute ones for the little kiddies and for the older kids, from 16+, the scary ones.

Let me know how your holiday goes. mgoodcooke@yahoo.com
