Election night dinner in Marion

Marion will hold its GET OUT THE VOTE election night dinner Tuesday, (Nov. 2) at the Elementary School from 4:30 to 7.

Sauerkraut bratwurst, hot dogs, baked potatoes and homemade pies will be served by members of the Community Club. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for K-6 and no more than $20 for a family.

GET OUT THE VOTE dinner was started in 1948 by Marion Foods and was served in the local factory by the plant workers. When Pete Naeye, President of Marion Foods, died, the dinner was continued under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club. When Rotary disbanded in 1993 the members could not let this tradition die and have continued the dinner.

Seneca Foods as continued to furnish the sauerkraut over all these years and changes in ownership of the local cannery. Profits from the dinner go to scholarships honoring Dr. Bovet who served the community of Marion for almost 60 years.
