Newark Girls open soccer season

The Newark Reds Junior Varsity girls soccer team tied with Red Creek at 1-1 in their season opener yesterday at Newark. Newark's Jillian Scarfia scored the lone goal for the Reds. Newark is playing Saturday in the annual Newark soccer tournament.

As for the Varsity team, the girls picked up a 4-1 win over Red Creek. Newark's Jenny Springett and Kelsey Binggeli each scored two goals for the Lady Reds and added two assists to each other for the Red's win. Red Creek's lone goal came from Emma Vitale. Newark is playing in its own tournament with Marion , Waterloo , and Gananda on Saturday. Game times are 6 and 8 p.m.
