Habitat Bike-a-Thon will be Sept. 11 Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County will hold its Bike-a-Thon on Saturday, September 11, beginning and ending at Aqueduct Park, Palmyra. Registration begins at 8:30 and riders depart at 9 a.m. Riders choose one of two routes: A 40-mile route takes bikers through scenic areas in Palmyra, Marion, Ontario and Walworth with rest stops at the Marion Habitat Home on Eddy Ridge Road and at Long Acres Farm. A 12-mile family-friendly ride takes riders down the canal trail to Macedon and back. Sag Wagons carrying fruit, snacks, and drinks will follow each of the routes. All riders are required to wear a helmet. Participants under 18 must have their registration form signed by a parent; those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Unlike other events of this nature, a registration fee is not required, but it is expected that each participant will raise a minimum of $20 in sponsorships. Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County is an ecumenical Christian organization whose goal is to eliminate substandard housing one house at a time by providing simple, decent, affordable housing for God's people in need. Nineteen homes have been built in Wayne County since 1988, with three more to be completed this year. Labor to build these homes is primarily volunteered and building materials are often contributed at cost. Fundraisers help raise money to defray building related expenses.
