Happenings A wedding and a visit with friends were the occasion of a trip to Baltimore by Isabelle Bushart. The daughter of Houghton College friends was the bride at the wedding, with both the bride and groom being current students at Houghton. The friends visited were Audrey Watson and Frances Wright, fellow teachers with Isabelle in a Methodist Mission School in Olive Hill, Kentucky in the early '50s. The three girls had a great time looking at old pictures and remembering their early teaching days. Audrey's husband, Joe, (also a retired teacher), gave a guided tour of Baltimore the last day on the way to the airport. A most enjoyable week!
Members of the 'Tulip' group of the Red Hat Society gathered for a picnic at B. Forman Park in Pultneyville. The girls spent a lovely time together, enjoying the array of foods and conversations. (Names are being withheld by request.) Congratulations to John and Eileen Ballesty on the occasion of their 46th Wedding Anniversary on August 23. Sean Timothy Phillips, son of Daniel and Bonnie (Godsey) Phillips, became a child of God through baptism on August 21, at St. Gregory's. Greg Barton, a 2004 graduate of Marion High School, is recuperating from surgery following an automobile accident. There is still room on the September 21 Fall Foliage tour leaving from Marion Fire Hall at 6 a.m. It's traveling to beautiful Lewis county in Eastern New York. See Deer River Ranch, home to 1100 majestic red deer. On to the Watson one room schoolhouse restored with authentic articles from the 1890-1910 era. The American Maple Museum and Hall of Fame exhibits tell the history of maple syrup and sugar making-a 'sweetest' stopover. As we board the Coach with our box lunch we will drive along picturesque Route 26 and enjoy the beautiful colors as we head to the quaint old village of Constableville with some time to explore the historic buildings there. Dinner will be at the Buffalo Head Restaurant with approximate arrival home about 8:30 p.m. Call Isabelle at 926.7764 for reservations! 'Fresh apples float because 25 percent of their volume is air.' There will be a Street Dance on Sept. 24 from 7 to 11 p.m. on Maple Ave., behind the M&T bank. Pastor Don and Judy White and daughter, Bonnie have returned to their Marion home after seeing Leah off to college in Tennessee. Bev Layton is convalescing at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. Julie Reesor presented the Ministry of Music at Second Reformed Church on August 29, with a hymn, 'Voice of Truth.' September 5, 1914: Building plans are now being considered by the officers of the Marion National Bank and it is expected that a handsome brick building will soon be erected on the corner lot purchased of the T.M. Clark estate. The bank has done more business since opening than was expected by most hopefuls. It certainly is a great convenience to business element of the town.
