By Melissa White

Michelle Abbey moved this weekend, so we know what she will be doing for the next few weeks, don't we.

Everyone is trying to get into the 'back to school' frame of mind. Perhaps a trial week a week off and then go back would be an option. But, parents, brace yourselves for the after-school functions, fieldtrips and school supplies they didn't have on the list. Once the routine starts, we just all fall back into step like nothing ever changed. We are so adaptable.

September, 1-19: Wayne County Grandslam & Merchants Challenge. The Wayne County Trophy Waters of Lake Ontario and Bays are renowned for producing 'keepers' in all sport categories. If you are a true fisherman, you can not pass up this challenge!

Throughout September: Kevin Woolever & Tom McCune at the Gallery, 8515D Greig Street, Sodus Point. Fine Woodworking by Kevin Woolever and oil paintings by Tom McCune.

Every Thursday in September: Newark Farmers' Market at the Firemen's Field, off West Shore Blvd. They sell only locally grown or made in Wayne County products.

This Sunday's Concert at the Lighthouse Museum is the last of the season and features the Big Band sound of the Music Makers. Head to 7606 North Ontario St., Sodus Point, and don't forget your l awn chair.

At the Apple Shed: Saturday, September 11, at 9:30 a.m. Head, Heart, Hand and Health 7K. Complete the form online. The Kids run at 10:45 a.m. The 7K cross-country course includes varied terrain through the orchard and woods at The Apple Shed. Post Race Activities: There will be free hayrides and 4-H activities for participants and families after the race from 11:30-12:30. Picnic area and petting zoo for the kids. Proceeds from the race will be donated to Wayne County 4-H through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County.

Mark your calendars:

Upside-Down Strawberry Cheesecake
For a quick-and-easy conventional strawberry cheesecake, just spoon this cream cheese filling into a prepared 9-inch graham cracker pie crust and top with the strawberries.

  • 1 cup (1/2 pint) heavy cream
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 package (4-serving size) vanilla instant pudding and pie filling mix
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, and halved
  • 4 graham crackers, crumbled

1. In a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form; set aside.

2. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until creamy. Add the pudding mix, milk, sugar, and lemon juice and continue beating until smooth.

3. Add the whipped cream and stir until well blended. Place the strawberry halves in a 9-inch pie plate. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over them and top with the crumbled graham crackers.

4. Serve, or cover and chill until ready to serve.

  • A sad one: The Notebook
  • A good book to check out: Princesses Don't Sweat

lighthouse Enjoy what good weather we have for the rest of the summer. To get into the mood of fall, check out the Dollar stores for some inexpensive fall leaf garlands to hang around. Gingerbread cookies can be made from the gingerbread cake mix to bring in the smells of fall and apple/cinnamon candles (as well as pumpkin scented ones) make welcoming fall more fun. Sometimes you can find packages of leaves that are loose to spread around the tables. When there are season changes they seem to go smoother when they are fun.

Have a good week. Any fun ideas you would like to share please let me know by writing to me at
