County to offer Ombudsman training

The Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth, Nye Rd., Lyons, will be offering the New York State Long Term Care Ombudsman Certification Training on October 20, 21, 22 and October 27, 28, and 29.

This training is a mandatory 36-hour training that certifies one to act as an advocate for senior citizens who are residents of Nursing Homes and Adult Care Homes throughout the County.

If you are 21 years of age, have good listening/writing skills and enjoy working on a one-to-one basis with senior citizens, this training is for you! The seniors whom the volunteer Ombudsman works with are the most frail (due to failing health) of our society. They encounter problems along the way that they are unable, physically or mentally to address. The volunteer Ombudsman can represent the client in resolving issues that arise.

Please call 946.5624 and ask to added to the mailing list for the upcoming Ombudsman Training. You will receive in the mail a detailed explanation of the program and training. You will also receive a registration form to be returned to the Office. The seniors of Wayne County thank you for considering the Ombudsman Program worthy of your time and volunteer effort.
