Happenings The Marion American Legion will host a Hunter Safety Course for 12 and older who want to learn about hunting safety, conservation and sportsmanship. The course will be October 15 from 5:30-9 p.m. and October 16 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Call Donald Tennity at 331.5024 between 10 and 5 to pre-register. This is a FREE course. There's a street dance planned this evening from 7 to 11, on Maple Ave. behind the bank. The Hen House Country Store is celebrating, Johnny Appleseed's Birthday. The event will be September 25 from 10 to 5 and September 26 from noon to 4. There will be bargains featured on the porch and under the tent. 'Having a dream isn't stupid, Norm. SEPTEMBER 28, 1912: William Snyder is suffering from severe bruises, scratches and a sprained wrist as a result of the team which he was driving running away. The bolt that holds the evener broke, felting the tongue slip out of the neck yoke. The team started to run and the tongue struck the road breaking it in two places; finding he could not control the horses under the circumstances, Mr. Snyder jumped, receiving his injuries. Family Roller Skating is this evening, sponsored by the PTA, 7-8:30, Elementary School gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult. HISTORY: Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man 'could bring home the bacon.' They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and 'chew the fat.' Jay and Carol Ramsey celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in Jamestown, with family and friends. A beautiful sunny day was in order for the annual picnic of the Marion Retired Educators Association at the home of Jay and Carol Ramsey. Twenty members enjoyed a variety of foods and lively conversation. Any retiree from Marion Central may join the group. Call 926.4953 for information.
