Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

I think it's safe now to put up the fall things now. (For awhile I had them up, and summer came back.) My decorations are good now right up through the Christmas season (after adding a pumpkin or jack o lantern here and there.) Before we know it, we'll be roasting pumpkin seeds and carving the pumpkins. This year, will be the last one for awhile unless my son comes home for the special occasion from college. I'll have to make my own seeds. (They do grow up quickly. I just sent him off to kindergarten!)

Speaking of fall, mark your calendars: The Rochester Chapter of The National Railway Historical Society is pleased to announce the return of its popular Fall Foliage Express rail excursions from Sodus. Saturdays: October 2, 9 & 16; Sundays October 3, 10 & 17; Two departures each day from Sodus, at Noon and 2:15 p.m.

This weekend is a Full Moon, so on Sept. 24 & 25, you can go to Long Acre Farms in Macedon for the Moonlight Maze. Enter from 5 to 9 p.m. Try navigating the maze paths under a full moon. All you need is a friend and a flashlight. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a chaperon.

Did you know that September is National Chicken Month? I should check mail more often and I would have known it much sooner,

Shake 'N Bake Chicken Nugget Kabobs

  • Chicken Part: Breast Halves 1 to 1-1/4 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast halves, cut into 1-1/2 to 2-inch pieces
  • 1 pkt. SHAKE 'N BAKE Extra Crispy Seasoned Coating Mix
  • 2 cups KRAFT Cheddar Cheese Cubes
  • 1-1/2 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz.) pineapple chunks
  • 12 (9-inch) wooden skewers

PREHEAT oven to 400F. Moisten chicken pieces with water. Shake off excess. Shake 3 or 4 pieces at a time with coating mix. Discard any remaining coating mix. Place in ungreased or foil- lined 15x10x1-inch baking pan.

BAKE 15 minutes or until cooked through.

ARRANGE 3 cooked chicken nuggets, 3 cheese cubes, 2 tomatoes and 1 pineapple chunk on a wooden skewer. Repeat with remaining skewers. Serve with 1/3 cup KRAFT Barbecue Sauce or 2/3 cup KRAFT Ranch Dressing.

KRAFT KITCHENS TIPS Chicken and Vegetable Kabobs Prepare as directed, substituting fresh red and green pepper chunks and mushroom slices for cheese, tomatoes and pineapple. Arrange uncooked, coated chicken and vegetables on wooden skewers leaving about 1/4-inch space between chicken and vegetables. Bake as directed in ungreased pan for 20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and vegetables are crisp-tender.

The new shows are well on the way. Everything from the new American Idol, Trading Spouses, The Apprentice, finishing up of Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and the list goes on and on. If you are into reality TV (like we must be) you will be in your glory.

Have a great week and don't forget to put up all the fall decorations and colored leaves in your house. Also, the window chalk is fun for drawing fall leaves and pumpkins on the windows, comes off with Windex, but be careful about getting it on the trim when you take it off.

Enjoy the weekend there are a lot of fun things to do. If you know of an event you'd like to share with others please write to me at

We can get a lot of neat, fun ideas from each other.
