Happenings The pioneer tavern of Marion was opened by a Widow Styles as early as 1800. It furnished whiskey to the settlers. Although Marion boasted for many years that she was a no license town, in the early days whiskey certainly flowed freely and distilleries were owned by Deacons and other prominent citizens. Mrs. Styles was also a doctress and practiced the primitive healing art along with her hotel business. April 4 - fourth-grade Spring Band Concert at 7 p.m. in the elementary auditorium. Millers Mills 'Every community supported a source of manmade mill ponds, lakes, streams. Millers Mills is one community still recalling age old ice harvesting. Millers Mills grange sponsors a festival of ice harvesting as it was in olden times. Hundreds of spectators gather to watch ice harvesting usually in the month of February. Then in August, they sponsor an ice cream social using ice harvested that year. ' This summer, July 17 at noon, visit Millers Mills for cross cut snow contest, with music and homemade ice cream.
