Five area folks did Touch-A-Thon

Kevin Comstra, Lisa Everdyke, Steve Pete, Roger VanDemortel, and Steven Williams competed in the 2005 Touch-A-Thon benefiting the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York.

The event took place at Marketplace Mall in Henrietta and lasted 54 hours and two minutes, from April 8 at 5 p.m. to April 10 at 11:02 p.m.

Kevin Comstra of Furnace Road, Ontario, placed eighth. Lisa Everdyke and her dad, Roger VanDemortel of Budd Road, Newark, also competed. He was a last-minute substitute for his wife Doreen, who is recuperating from a broken leg.

Steve Williams of Marion was the top fundraiser, single-handedly raising $8533. He operates Williams Farms in Marion. He finished in fifth place.

Steve Pete of Evergeen Circle, Walworth, finished in the top 20.

'We are thrilled with the success of this year's Touch-A-Thon, thanks to the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication of our wonderful contestants and volunteers,'says Jan Miller, Executive Director of the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York. 'In the eyes of our staff and patients, they are all winners.'
