Lyons native meets Rumsfeld

Senior Airman Melissa L. Herman is a readiness journeyman on duty for four-to-six months at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyz Republic).

Thousands of troops and federal employees are flown through the base to reach Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recently, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld visited the Air Base. Sr. Airman Herman is pictured beside Secretary Rumsfeld.

Herman graduated in 1999 from Lyons High School.
