Historical Society wants photos The Museum of Wayne County History, located at 21 Butternut Street in Lyons, is currently accepting photographs of Wayne County's town and village halls for a September exhibition. Area residents are encouraged to participate by creatively photographing these buildings and submitting unframed, 8 x 10, color or black and white prints to the museum. Creative ideas include shooting from a low or high angle, taking a close-up of an architectural detail, using a filter for a mysterious effect or setting a long exposure for a nighttime view. Participation in this program is free. One-time use cameras are available for those who do not have access to a camera. Entries will become the property of the museum and will be added to the photography archive. Participants can get tips on composing better photographs from professional photographer Ralph Thompson. The Sodus Bay Historical Society is co-sponsoring a workshop on Saturday, August 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Sodus Point Lighthouse Museum, 7066 North Ontario Street. The Lyons Heritage Society is co-sponsoring a workshop on Monday, August 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the H.G. Hotchkiss Building, 96 West Water Street. There is a $5 fee for the workshop, but several needs-based scholarships are available. A sign language interpreter is available with advance notice. The exhibition, called 'Halls of Fame,' opens with a preview party on Thursday, September 29, and opens to the public on Friday, September 30. This photography program is supported in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, which is administered locally by Finger Lakes Arts Grants & Services, Inc. The deadline for photographic submissions is Friday, September 9. Entry forms are available by visiting www.waynehistory.org or by calling the museum at 315.946.4943.
