Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

We came out to Sodus the other day bringing gifts of zucchini bread and chocolate chip cookies. We stopped off to see how thin our neighbors on Sergeant Street were getting and to surprise them with how much the leprechaun has grown up. I was afraid since it's been a while, that their doctors may have told them no more sugar. Al Dobbin said he is 87 years old and his dr. told him that he can eat anything he wants to, so we were fine with him. Lill Burkholder has a friend and hair dresser that comes to visit on Thursdays (well it was Thursday this time) and Lill can have sugar as well. We did ok.

We spent a lot of time chatting with the girls about things and catching up. I wish I had Lill's memory. I really must keep a special address book like she does. It's a great little book. She keeps pictures that are sent to her in Christmas cards and other pictures. I told her I'd send her along one of Michael's graduation. (The kids will be heading off to college soon.)

We did see John Castle from a distance. I kept going past the house to see if Karen was in. He must have wondered who I was and why I kept peeking at his house. (I am too old to be much of a threat.)

Debbie Wright from Debbie's Daycare in Sodus made an entry for the Kiddie Parade and sent some pictures along.

A note from Debbie:

'The kids were great, they were so excited, and had such a wonderful time, we won 2nd place, that was cool. all the parents were awesome, my kids were there, and helped. I am still very excited, what a great night!'

An offer by the owners of Parkwood Heights Senior Living Community in Macedon, to purchase the 17-acre Myers (Hospital) property in Sodus has been accepted. Father and son Mark and Craig Welker's vision for the property is to create a scenic and relaxing retirement community. ViaHealth currently owns the property.

Donna Chittenden, Town Supervisor for Sodus shares, 'This is a very exciting project for Sodus. Finally, we will see something positive happening with the Myers Building. This is a very important and special building to all of us in Sodus. Seeing it alive and active might help us heal.'

Aiming to have the first apartments open and available by the end of 2006, future plans include building patio homes and cottages. The initial plan is to convert the hospital into 80 comfortable and well appointed assisted living apartments. The campus will also include a comfortable community center boasting an elegant dining room, library, fitness center and activity room. The attached medical building will stay in place providing easy access to medical care for the new assisted living residents.

Parkwood Heights, an active senior living community opened in November 2000, will serve as the model for the new campus in Sodus. Parkwood Heights has become the home of approximately 150 seniors. The 122-acre campus, located off Route 31 in Macedon, offers new homes, senior apartments and enriched services for persons age 50 and over.
