Locally Built Cars To Be Shown

For the first time, two automobiles made in Wayne County will be shown at the coming annual car show sponsored by the Wayne Drumlins Antique Car Club. The show will be held on August 21 at the Marion Town Park from 10 to 4. The Mora Motor Car Company, a firm that built cars in Newark, New York from 1906 until 1911, produced the historic vehicles.

One of the cars to be displayed is a 1908 Browniekar, a one-cylinder gasoline powered car that was designed and built for children. Produced in 1908 and 1909, the little car never gained popularity and few were produced. The car to be displayed is one of three known to exist.

The other vehicle to be shown is a 1909 Mora Tourer. A large six-cylinder car, it was an expensive car built for those who could afford the best. The Tourer-6 model was available in 1908 and 1909, and was too expensive to gain mass appeal. The car to be shown is the only one known to have survived.

Both cars are from the collection of Steven and Pamela Heald of Sodus.

The Wayne Drumlins Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) holds a show each year at the Marion Town Park on the third Sunday in August. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
