A Public Hearing regarding a referendum that would change the Marion Town Supervisor's term from two years to four years will be held Tuesday, August 30 at 7 p.m. in the Town Meeting Room. (This is a change from Aug. 22 as previously announced.)

Members of the American Legion Memorial Auxiliary Unit 1430 will meet Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Anyone that's an Auxiliary member of Unit 1430 Auxiliary is WELCOME to attend. We are looking for new members. Please feel free to call and find out if your eligible at 926.4835. We send phone cards to our Marion Graduates that are in the service. Also make and donate many things for our Veterans at the Canandaigua VA Hospital, and send school supplies to Iraq.

Zucchini Bread (one of my favorite recipes)

  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups grated zucchini
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut

Cream eggs and sugars. Mix in oil, vanilla until smooth. Add flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Mix well. Add wheat germ and stir until blended. Add nuts and coconut, then zucchini. Greased loaf pan - 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes. Note: important that zucchini is well drained.

Gord and I, accompanied by family members, cousins and friends traveled to Toronto on Aug. 9, aboard the 'Cat.' Since we woke early our first thought when we boarded was coffee and something tasty. After we toured the ferry, we rested while watching the waves splash by. In the theater they were playing Madagascar (thus saving the expense of a theater ticket).

Other interesting stops on the schedule included a visit to the Allan Gardens Conservatory, with lovely plants and flowers, a guided tour of Robert Hall Pewter Studio to see how they handcraft their pewter gift ware (and a stop at the gift shop) and to a super buffet luncheon at the Town and Country Restaurant. A nice day and a chance to catch up on everyone's summer activities.

The 79th annual Bushart Reunion was held at the Marion Town Park on August 7. Thirty-nine people were present with Teddy Townson of Clyde being the youngest, and two Mary Busharts of Sodus and Marion being the oldest. The beautiful afternoon was enjoyed by all with a picnic lunch, looking at pictures and history of the family. There were ten Bushart brothers at one time, all of whom are gone, but the four widows who are still alive had their pictures taken. Pat Dick is working on a book of past reunion pictures and anyone who has any is asked to get them to her. There was a lot of discussion over a recently acquired picture of an early reunion which had all 10 Bushart boys and their father along with other relatives. Next year's reunion will be the first Sunday in August.

Rev. Kevin and Kim Bushart and daughters Hayley, Hannah and Heather from Odessa, Texas, recently visited Kevin's mother, Isabelle Bushart. Much of the hot week was spent cleaning out the garage, having a yard sale, visiting relatives, and swimming every day! Debbie and Mary Grace Corpus of Carmel, Indiana, were also guests of their aunt, Isabelle Bushart.

A Place for Us -

Dad learned high-pressure salesmanship

And sharpened it with skill and grace,

He wrote an ad to sell our house

A great description of the place.

He told its charm in all detail,

Lawn, basement, attic, shelf and drawer,

And then he turned to Mom and said,

'Just what we've been looking for!'

Marion's Fall Festival (Sept. 10) - your Marion Museum will be open from 10 to 3. Come by and look at some of the latest exhibits or just spend some time visiting with friends. And plan to allow time to tour 'Jennie's House,' before you pick up your Marion's Legion Baseball's chicken Bar-B-Q on the lawn. Lots of plans are in the wind and we are always open for suggestions to help restore the home as it once was.

The Most Important Five Minutes

The first five minutes are vitally important, especially to a new friendship, a job interview, a family during the early morning wake-up time, or a dad or mom who has just come home from work. Those first few minutes set the stage for everything that follows. Make sure you're engaged and observant ... and most of all, kind.
