The Great NYS Fair continues Governor George E. Pataki opened the 159th New York State Fair in Syracuse Thursday. It features more than 200 acres of exhibits, rides, food and entertainment over a 12-day period from August 25th through Labor Day, September 5. The theme of this year's New York State Fair is 'Fun Unlimited.' Since the first State Fair in 1841, the variety and quality of exhibits and entertainment have amazed and impressed fairgoers of all ages. 'New York has it all and the best of the best is on display at the Great New York State Fair,' Governor Pataki said. 'A wonderful venue for children and adults alike, the State Fair enables us to learn more, see more and experience the best of New York State. Whether it's the animal exhibits, the Ferris wheel, the butter sculpture, the State's smallest State Park, or the diversity of food and entertainers - this year's fair has 200 acres of 'fun unlimited.' Pataki has attended Opening Day at the Fair every year since taking office in 1995. During his visit, the Governor also stopped by Operation SAFE CHILD, a new initiative that raises awareness about child safety. The Governor toured the New York State Horticulture Building and the Pride of New York display, which showcased hundreds of different New York State food products. New to the Fair this year are the King's Ransom Elvis Presley Museum, the Sportsfest American sports history and trivia exhibit, the Movie Magic interactive stage show, and the Statue of Liberty construction display.
