Planners Seek Input A public workshop is planned for Thursday, December 15, in the second-floor courtroom of the Newark Municipal Building, from 7-9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Groundbreaking planned for 2010 Planners and public officials want to hear from the residents of the Village of Newark and Town of Arcadia regarding the development of recommendations for Newark's Main Street/Route 88 Corridor. In the process of planning for the replacement of water and sewer utilities along Rt. 88 from Rose Drive north to Pearl Street, local officials have been working with regional and state transportation and planning agencies including NYSDOT, Genesee Transportation Council, and Genesee/Fingerlakes Regional Planning Council to develop plans for the rehabilitation of the entire Rose Drive to Pearl Street corridor. Above and below grade rehabilitation is planned. 'In many villages and towns throughout Upstate New York, Main Streets represent the heart of the community. While the prosperity or condition of some main street areas in our region may have declined over the years, it is important to believe that their best days lie ahead,' said Brian Slack, Senior Planner for Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council. The public workshop will have maps, drawings, and other visual presentations on display along with facilitators, and planners, who will be on hand to answer questions and most importantly gather community responses regarding physical alterations to the corridor and overall appearance of Newark's Main Street. The major portion of the workshop will be dedicated to public input. The planned activities and groundbreaking for Rt. 88 are at least five years away. This comment period provides an opportunity for Newark to begin gathering comments before significant plans are drawn. Survey Starts the Process - Every Arcadia business, and all Newark businesses and residents located between Rose Drive and Pearl Street in Newark are scheduled to receive a survey. Surveys will be hand delivered to business rentals on Main Street. Copies of the survey are available at the Newark Village offices and online at http://gflrpc.org/Publications/PVMSFP.htm Surveys need to be returned to the Village Clerk's Office by December 23. People unable to attend the meeting should make a special effort to complete the survey. Come to the workshop prepared to discuss pedestrian safety, historic preservation, street lighting, landscaping, Erie Canal connections, parking, and economic development. Copyright
