Col. Christler retires from State Police Colonel David Christler has retired from the New York State Police. He previously served as a Major at Troop E Headquarters in Canandaigua and most recently as Deputy Superintendent of the State Police in Albany. Christler, 57, joined the State Police in January 1974 and was affiliated with Troop E, which includes 10 counties. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1980, overseeing satellite station operations in Monroe, Ontario and Livingston Counties. He was named Station Commander of the Williamson station in December 1982. Two years later, he became Zone Sergeant in charge of the Henrietta Zone Station. He made Lieutenant in 1986 and was in charge of training at the State police Brockport Satellite Academy. He was promoted to Captain in January 1990. Christler has received several Superintendent's Commendations for meritorious service. He is a three-year veteran of the Army and served in Vietnam from 1969-70, earning the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for valor. He and his wife Diane raised their daughters, Lauren and Amy, in Newark, and still make their home in the village. Copyright
