County to begin taxing vehicle use
By Donna Comella

In a move to increase county revenues, Wayne County Supervisors plan to establish a new law that will tax motor vehicle use.

If approved, the law will add a $5 fee to your car registration. If it weighs over 3500 pounds, tack on $10 to the bill. If you drive a commercial truck or bus, $10. The typical not-for-profits and charitable organizations will be exempt from the new fees. Those organizations will be required to file the appropriate form with the County Clerk.

Only Supervisor Jim Fabino of Lyons voted against the resolution that set a date and time for public input. He had voiced his opposition late last year, when supervisors first discussed the idea to increase revenues in the 2005 budget. Supervisors Joe DeSanto (Arcadia) and Carm Pascarella (Rose) were absent.

There will be a public hearing on the proposed law on Tuesday, March 15 at 9:15 a.m. in the second floor Supervisors' Chambers of the Old County Courthouse in Lyons.
