Bear tracks spotted in Newark
By John Zornow

The recent spotting of a black bear in Palmyra caused a stir among residents of that area. While searching for a burglary suspect, police flushed a young black bear from a woods behind the Palmyra Moose Lodge.

Early this week, Roger and Patty Hubright of 953 Peirson Avenue spotted bear paw prints on a deck at their residence. They phoned their neighbor, retired Newark Police Captain Roger VanDemortel, who looked at the tracks and confirmed them to be bear tracks.

So ... residents of Newark's southwest side, what you think are raccoons raiding your trash just may be 'Gentle Ben' himself.
