'The first set of equipment owned by the Marion Fire Department burned up. The Department was organized in 1911 at the Marion Cold Storage plant with 28 charter members. The first equipment was a hand drawn hose cart and a small chemical hook and ladder truck. After it was destroyed a set of duplicate apparatus was purchased. The next step was the purchase of a La France pumper. The present fire house was built in 1915 (Marion Town Hall).

The upper floor is sort of club room used by various organizations as a meeting place. The apparatus is stored on the ground floor. Room is also set aside for a rest room and public library. The present department has three companies; hose, chemical, and hook and ladder with 50 members The firemen also maintain a Firemen's Park. (Marion Historic files)

I have now copied the October 17, 1930 issue of the Marion Enterprise which, along with the August 27, 1926 issue (Marion's 100th birthday) ... are available for you to borrow.

Nancy DeFisher who now resides in Florida, is visiting with her family and friends in the Marion area.

January 17 is the official Martin Luther King Day this year. Annual ham dinner at the Second Reformed Church - 4:30 to 7 - take-outs available, donations accepted.

I was reading an article which spoke about Pumpkin Hook, Slab City, Pickleville, and Stony Lonesome. Do you remember any of these places?
