Colacino family creates memorial award The family of Ron Colacino has chosen to honor his memory with an annual $1000 scholarship award for one or two students studying Electrical Trades at Wayne Area Technical and Career Center (WTCC). Jim Buck, Electrical Trades instructor, was told of the award by Todd Nittolo, of Newark, and received a plaque onto which the Colacinos will have each award winner's name inscribed. The plaque will be displayed in the tech center. Criteria for the award will be established by the Electrical Trades Consultant Committee which includes representatives of local companies in the electrical field, including Nittolo, President of Colacino Electric Supply. Others are Carl Van Camp, Van Camp Electric; Sam Agnello, Commonwealth Inspection Services; Frank Caratozzolo, Caratozzolo Electric; Mike O'Brien, O'Brien Electric LLC. Buck hopes to have the criteria formalized by February 28. The first Ron Colacino Memorial Award will be presented at the tech centers awards and recognition ceremony in June. Buck and Craig Logan, WTCC principal, both said Ron Colacino had a long history of generously supporting students in the WTCC Electrical Trades classes and that the memorial award is a fitting tribute to him. 'Ron would host our students at his business in Newark, give them a tour and a presentation on the retail supply end of the field and then give them pizza and soda,' Buck recalled. 'If any students needed some basic supplies to get started in a business he would always give them a discount.' Copyright
