According to the American Legion, the nation's largest distributor of American flags, sales went up by 50 percent in 2002, after the attacks.

The only U.S. flag that flies all day and has never been saluted or flown at half-mast is the one Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted on the moon in 1969.

Memories of a Farmer Kid - A cheap, safe way to celebrate the Fourth of July was to turn the ignition switch off and on as we drove along.

Another cool treat that will soon celebrate an important birthday is the Popsicle. One chilly night in San Francisco in 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson left his soda pop with a stirring stick in it on the back porch. He awoke to find a frozen stick of soda! His accidental invention resulted in the first 'popsicle,' which he began selling on hot summer days. Frank's son, who later ran the family business, affectionately called them 'Pops' in honor of his father.
