Plans made for Bible School in Lyons

The construction foreman shouts, 'Welcome to a work in progress. You've entered a construction zone!'

Vacation Bible School leaders in Lyons are responding to the challenge.

At Construction Zone they are building character like Jesus. This Bible School program will take place 6-8:30 p.m., Sunday, July 24 through Thursday, July 28.

Sponsored by the Lyons Inter-Church Council, the Construction Zone is for children entering pre-K through sixth grade in September. It will be held at the Lyons United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons. These two churches sit back-to-back, one on William Street and the other on Broad Street.

This construction project will follow God's blueprint for our lives, and we need all the construction crew members we can find. We will explore the life of Jesus and see in Him some character qualities that honor God. Kids will be building on a firm foundation, but not with bricks and stone.

Through hands-on activities kids will be challenged to be humble, obedient, faithful, caring, and forgiving - just like Jesus (Just Like Jesus is the theme song). The week will be full of fun and excitement, including the Interior Design Center (Bible stories), the Hard Hat Area (games), the Brown Bag Bistro (snacks), Do-It-Yourself Crafts and On-the-Job-Praises, an upbeat and energetic music program.

The daily opening and closing assemblies will be held at the United Methodist Church and children will rotate from one site (classroom) to another throughout the two churches. Our Construction Zone mascot, Darrel the Barrel, will be on hand to lead the way.

On-site registration will be July 24 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Parents or guardians will need to come into the church to the dining hall to register the children. For information, 946.6035.
