Missing Sodus Sorry I missed everyone last week. I went on vacation (which I didn't know I needed), but am back now. We came out to Sodus Point on Sunday and must have just been in between events, so we found nothing to do. I have never seen the beach parking lot so full. We couldn't find the events we were looking for, but there was still a lot going on, with sales and musical entertainment at the restaurants. We came out again on Monday and enjoyed watching the families on the beach having fun with the kids playing in the water, swinging and picnics and the sailboats were racing. The sails were so pretty against the blue of the water and what a perfect day for it. Al Dobbin was busy, but I have never seen the man sit still. He writes: I can hardly believe only one leprechaun left. (He always called the kids leprechauns when they would drop off things for him.) I just got back from a trip to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood then on to Nashville and Ryman Auditorium, 3 hour Ricky Scags show at Ryman and Then Grand Ole Opry. Went with my two kids (?) and son-in-law and Granddaughter. Had a wonderful time. Now that the kids have all graduated, it's time for them to go for their orientations. Since the only time I have been to Buffalo was to go to the zoo (and my son isn't attending Buffalo Zoo for college), I was apprehensive about taking him this week. So, when you aren't sure of yourself and driving is involved we did the only thing we could to calm my nerves - we set out for a trial run with guidance from Lorrie Zone. (Good thing she was home. We needed a lot of guidance.) Jimmy Malone has a birthday today, July 8. Even though he's getting old, he has reminded many times that he'll never be old as I am. He's right I will always be older (and smarter). I have put up with him for years. (He's my brother...you understand.) For Summer fun, I saw a great idea on Rachael Rays 30 minute meals show. It was a block party. All the neighbors got together with a table of fun things for the kids to do, watermelon eating contests. Everyone gets to partake with decorating, food, entertainment and it looks like so much fun. Maybe a thought for your neighborhood. You could check on the computer for fun ideas and recipes. Rachael Rays Mini Burgers:
Tomorrow, is the Picnic & Stawberry Social (July 9), 4:30-7:30 at the United Third Methodist Church, 56 West Main Street, Sodus. It's a Sloppy Joe Dinner with a variety of delicious sides. Strawberry shortcake for dessert. Listen to the Finger Lakes Symphony Pops on the lawn of the Old Lighthouse at Sodus Point, overlooking Lake Ontario. While you're there, visit the Maritime Museum & the Old Lighthouse Museum Gift Shop. Concerts & Parking are Free - bring your own seating. Refreshments Available. News from Amy Toye: Josh Toye graduated on Saturday from Sodus. He is going to Onondaga College in Syracuse to study to be a paid fireman or a fire investigator. We finally bought Globe Travel (Sodus). The new name is Destinations Tours and Travel, Inc. It was final on 6/13, I have a lot of group trips planned. Congratulations to them and good luck with their new business venture and adventure. Marlene sent this along to me: Hi everyone. Once again this year the Neighborhood Association of Sodus Point is assisting to sponsor the Sodus Point Triathlon. This event will be held on August 21 with a start time of 8 a.m. We will need volunteers. I am starting early to contact people in the hopes of having 25 volunteers on hand. Many of you helped out last year and for that we thank you very much. If you are interested in helping again or know of anyone else who would like to help please send me their name and e-mail address so that I can make a comprehensive list. Thanks so much for you attention to this. If you're interested in volunteering for the triathlon, please contact Marie DeWispelaere at mdewispe@redsuspenders.com I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th with all the fireworks, family picnics and time together, but don't forget the summer is just beginning and it's going to be a fun one. They say you get out of things as much as you put into them. Enjoy every minute of it.
