alasa farms Alasa Children's Workshops coming

A week long workshop filled with learning and adventure for children ranging in ages from 8 and above is being held at the historic Alasa Farm in Alton. With certified teachers, Academic and Physical challenges, Academic Skills Development, Exploration and Problem solving and an Outdoor Education is coming to the area.

Session I is from July 11-15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ages 8-12.

Session II is July 18-22, same time, for ages 13 and above.

The cost of the full week workshop is $175.00 /week. Early drop off fee at 7:30 of $20, and late pick up fee (3 p.m.) is $25.

A typical day's workshop would look like this:

Morning workshops 8-11

  • Monday - math in nature
  • Tuesday - history of the area
  • Wednesday - science experiments
  • Thursday - art in the outdoors
  • Friday - cooking in nature

goat Afternoon workshops, 11 to 2

  • Monday - fitness
  • Tuesday - literary focus
  • Wednesday - light and color in nature
  • Thursday - animal/fossil identification
  • Friday - personal growth /closing ceremony

The unique summer workshop will focus on stimulating each individual child's desire to learn while enjoying outdoor activities. They will have the opportunity to learn new skills while outdoors, interact with the farm animals at Alasa Farm, do real world experiments to learn about science and explore the academics in nature.

The Academy's vision is to provide access to an engaging, non-traditional environment where children can use exploration, creativity and technology to develop their portal as healthy, happy, contributing leaders of the world.

horse Sharon Maher is the Director of the workshop and has a BS, MS, SAS, and SDA. Maryanne Whyte the Program Director has an AS, BS, MS and SAS.
