Newark Wahoos invite new swimmers

Do you want to swim better and faster, to race and compete? Newark Wahoos Swim have just completed an exciting and successful year with over 75 swimmers participating.

Children from the ages of 6 to 18 trained and competed in local dual meets and USA Swimming sanctioned invitational meets, and achieved many best time performances. The club is coached by Jim DeWitt and Tedd VanDuyne, former collegiate swimmers with extensive experience in age-group and interscholastic swimming. They are assisted by coaches Danielle Ohlson, Stephanie Wetmore, Joanne Brumm, Lindsay Miller and Katie Castro.

Membership in the Newark Wahoos Swim Club is open to all students in grades K-12.

A camp will run from August 1-5 and is open to all swimmers, including beginning competitive swimmers who can pass the two-length test. For the Experienced group, practices will be from 8 to 1 and will include stroke and skill work; conditioning; strength training; and daily presentations on topics such as dry land conditioning, mental preparation, and goal setting.

Practices for the Beginning and Novice group will be from 9:30-11:30. The focus would be beginning stroke and skill instruction; dry-land stretching; presentations on goal setting, making swimming fun, and videotape instruction on strokes & skills. There will be a limit to the number of swimmers who can participate in this camp. Registrations will be accepted through July by calling Coach DeWitt (331.1684); or by registering on July 18.

The Wahoo is an exciting, extremely fast and hard fighting species of fish. It is one of the fastest fish in the sea, swimming at speeds of 50 miles per hour or more. Questions may be directed to Coach DeWitt or Coach Van Duyne (331.6142).
