Days gone by In 1894, there were in Marion, two hardware stores, two general stores, two groceries, two jewelry shops , two millinery shops, two meat markets, one lawyer, three physicians, one veterinary surgeon, one bakery, one newspaper office, four wagon and blacksmith shops, five churches, one hotel, the Marion Collegiate Institute, a public school building, the foundry and machine shop of Lewis Smith, a gristmill, a canning factory, a ladder and fruit evaporator manufactury, a mint still, two undertakers, and about 900 inhabitants.
