Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

We came out to the Sodus area to cover Debbie Wright's Daycare Hoppin for MDA on Tuesday. The kids were so excited they couldn't wait to get started. Channel l0 news was there covering the event, which of course added to the excitement. If you could hop on it, it was probably used. It was so cute watching kids from age one and up working together for such a good cause. The total raised was $1,061.42. Great job!

While we were in Sodus, we went to the Sodus Free Library to pick up some information about the Summer Reading Program. It was great. Not only did we get the information for the reading program but we were taken upstairs to the Ruth Mills room by Betty Bugni, where she showed us the graduation information from as far back as l859. There were two graduates that year: Priscella M. Parsons and Ester Clark. Then the school was called the Sodus Academy. The Ruth Mills room is available on Tuesdays and if it isn't open you can ask for the key and go right up. In the room, you can find cemetery records and it is a great place if you are into your family's genealogy. The room contains Ruth Mills' book collection as well as other pictures and memorabilia. It was fun to see information dating so far back into the past and to read the names of the graduates and their sayings for the future. There was a photograph Betty pointed out I found especially fun. She showed us that there was a gentleman on the left side of the picture who was identical to the one on the far right side. I thought, a twin? Nope. While the photographer panned the people for the photo, the gentleman had his picture taken on the left hand side then ran down to the other side and had time to pose and have it taken on that side as well. The things you can learn at the library.

PHILADELPHIA Dessert Dip

  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 jar (7 oz.) JET-PUFFED Marshmallow Creme
  • Mix ingredients until well blended. Refrigerate 'til ready to serve. Serve with assorted Nabisco cookies or fresh fruit

I had made something similar to this before, but instead of marshmallow creme, I used instant vanilla pudding mix and it is a nice and cool dessert that almost everyone loves. (It's tough to please everyone, but usually when sugar is involved, it gets easier to make them happy.)
