Daycare Hoppin' for MDA
By Melissa White
mda fundraiser

Debbie Wright's Daycare on Vanslyke Road, Sodus, hopped, jumped and even danced... as long as they were moving. The kids had practiced since 6 a.m. to be ready for their two minute Hop-A-Thon. It was fun to watch their excitement as they waited for the music to begin and let them know it was time to start. The kids, from age l and up, had hopping balls. One had a jump rope; another had a jumping thing he could jump up on to the picnic table with and others went the old fashioned way, using their feet. The Hop-A-Thon was done by a donation from each child and they came up with $l,061.42 for Jerry's Kids. The event went so well and they had such fun that it will be an annual event they can look forward to.

decorating posters To get ready, the kids earlier in the week, had made and decorated posters for the front of their table. Fifteen kids took part in the event to help with MDA and afterward, when all the hoppin was done, the fun didnt end. Each child received a booklet, surprise bag and sticker to wear. Then it was time for ice cream cones.

Channel l0 was at the event to cover it and the kids could all have the opportunity to watch themselves on the 6 o'clock news to see the hopping action for themselves.

The children who participated were:

Emily M., Emily B., Josh, Gunnar, Vincent, Trent, Dustin, Alexis, Marsedez, Kamron, Alucard, Catherine, Cody, JC, and Dillon. CC raised $340 for MDA - the largest amount. Debbie said there were a lot of envelopes filled with pennies, some from the children's own piggy banks.

People who helped with the counting were: Tosha, Doug, Sharon, Deanna, Bill, and Debbie. The Country Hardware donated $20. Dr. Gierer donated 25; General Mills 80; NAPA 20; Barb Naeye 50.

Thanks to everyone who donated and to the children who spent the time to devotedly hop for two minutes to help out a great cause. And to Debbie for a job well done in making it a fun and enjoyable event, as well as making it possible for the kids to help to raise money for a wonderful cause. Great job everyone!
