Olde Tyme Country Faire this weekend The 2004 Olde Tyme Country Faire, sponsored by the Sodus Chamber of Commerce, will be held in Sodus on July 22 and 23. The weekend will start off on Friday, July 22, with the popular Pet Parade hosted by the CrackerBox Palace. Anyone can join in the parade - young or old, and for any kind of pet - from kitty cats, to horses, to that favorite gold fish. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an old fashioned summer evening in the park with free entertainment. Immediately following the parade, a street dance will start. There will be music from the 50s to the 90s with Steve Bates doing the DJ honors and the dance is being sponsored by Tri County Water. Curves for Women in Sodus and the Ladies from the Sodus WCTA Credit Union will each put on a dance exhibition for the crowd. Hot dogs will be sold by the Sodus Central Golf Club and the Chamber will again be doing the Ice Cream Social. Saturday, July 23 starts with the Jason Buyck Memorial sanctioned 5 k race. Throughout the community there will be yard sales and the chance to win a $50 gift card from Wegmans. The more yard sale stickers returned to the Chamber booth before 3 p.m. the more chances to win the raffle. Free maps with address of all the sales will be available at the Chamber booth as well as the Sun & Record. The arts and craft vendors will be open for the public at the WCTA parking lot just off Route 88 starting at 9 a.m. With over two dozen vendors, there is something for everyone, from childrens books to homemade pies. Chicken BBQ, fried pickles, java smoothies and even wine tasting will make sure you don't go away hungry. Big Dog Radio, 103.5 fm, will have a live remote and free prizes during the day. The Wayne Fingerlakes League United (WFL United 1) Men's Soccer Team will play on the Varsity Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. They will be playing against the Hellenic FC 2 team. Pupils from Dancing with Miss Debi will be giving recitals starting at 1 p.m. Many other family events are planned for the day, including tours of the Wallington Cobblestone one room School House. Chamber Checks are good for a 10% discount at participating area merchants and are free to the public. They will be available at the Chamber of Commerce booth or from any Chamber member during the Pet Parade and the Olde Tyme Country Faire. The Chamber will also be conducting a raffle with the first prize being $500 off any new or used vehicle in stock from Lessord's Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. The second prize is a $200 shopping spree at Paton's Market Place. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available from any Chamber member and at the Sodus WCTA Credit Union. See you at the Faire!
