Missing Sodus

Rachel, Oscar and I came out for the Old Tyme Pet Parade and Street Dance last Friday night. Of course, with the construction going on coming back into Rochester, we sat for a good 45 minutes trying to get home. The Pet Parade was so cute. There were horse-drawn wagons and people pulling wagons with their kids and pets in them. People walking their pets and some pets walking their people. All fun to watch. Many prizes were given out for an assortment of categories, and then came the street dance.

The ladies from Curves did their routine and then the ladies from WCTA did theirs and a future Curves girl or WCTA member joined in. She was tiny and had a great time dancing in the street. The music supplied by a dj was professionally done, so it flowed with never a dull moment. The little ones would come out showing the audience just how the Macarena should be done. We had a great time watching people join in to do the Electric Slide and the Twist. (Now if I was just a little younger, and wouldn't have embarrassed my daughter and Oscar, I would have been out there as well.)

News from Ralph Everdyke:

'Betty & I had a rather busy weekend. There was a party for the graduating class of 1945 from the Marion Central School, of which Betty was a member. On Saturday night we went to Miceli's Restaurant and Party House in Macedon for dinner. It was a very enjoyable evening. On Sunday, Roger Adriaansen from Marion invited everyone to a picnic and get together at his and wife Gen's home. Another enjoyable time with a lot of remembering old times. Roger said he had a surprise for us but wouldn't tell us ahead of time what it was. He had invited his Sister-in-law, Carolyn Adriaansen to come and make a presentation about outhouses and homes that where sold by Sears and built in the area. It was very interesting and enjoyable. One of the most interesting things was that there is still an outhouse in the Village of Phelps, NY. And the amazing thing is that it is a two story high one. We were informed though that the second story one did not drop right over the bottom story one, if you get my point. She puts on a very interesting and amusing presentation. If anyone has the chance to catch one of her shows, it is well worth the time. They have been having a gathering every five years, but because of their age brackets they are going to try and get together every year from now on.

Oscar is busy driving everyone nutty wanting to play ball, but there is something really special about throwing half of a rubber ball. It was one of the prizes that came in the nice gift basket Rachel had won. Rachel and Oscar (especially) have been enjoying her prize she won at a drawing at Sampling Sodus. It took us a few weeks to pick up the basket, anticipating what it might be. It sat at the WCTA in Sodus for a bit and then it was off to the Webster Branch to sit again, but finally we made it out. The basket was beautifully package and filled with dog things, everything from the grooming comb/brush and shampoo to the gift certificate for boarding from the Cobblestone Boarding Kennel on Geneva Road in Sodus. Oscar felt it would be all right for Rachel to give the shampoo, grooming things and stay at the kennel to Sarah. After all, where ever we go, he goes. (There is no way to forget him... he stands whining next to the door.)

Rachel sat on the floor while Oscar helped by nudging into the basket for her to take things out faster. There was a beautiful, soft pastel blanket, puppy care books, lots of dog treats, dog food samples, toys and the gift certificate. The travel water bowls get used every time we come to the area. When they were finished, things were displayed all over the floor and Oscar would show her which thing he needed her to take out next for him. There is stationery for Rachel to use while she is watching the dog enjoy his new things.

The basket would fulfill every puppy's dreams. Every once in a while you can hear the cellophane making noise and you just know Oscar is in there checking something out that is in the basket that Rachel won just for him.

Congratulations, Rachel. You and Oscar keep enjoying your prize. And thank you to Cobblestone Boarding Kennels for the gift basket.

Have a great week and thanks to everyone who contributed to this week's column. If you have anything you would like to add to the next column, please write to me at mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
