Last Wednesday night, Wayne County Democrats gave their backing to Lyons resident Larry Quinn to run for County Clerk on the November ballot. A newcomer to the political scene, Quinn currently is the Sole Assessor for the Town of Arcadia. He is a lifelong Lyons resident. Prior to being appointed to the Assessor's post in 1989, Quinn was a commercial property data collector for the Wayne County Real Property Tax Services Dept. In 2001, he was elected an officer of the New York State Assessors Association. Currently, he chairs three of the Association's committees: Legislative, Ethics, and Special Events. He also serves as a member of the Mentoring Committee and is the Coordinator for the Western Region NYSAA's Annual Legislative Action Day in Albany. He also coordinates a one-day seminar for the NYS Region. One of the reasons Quinn has chosen to throw his hat into the ring is that he doesn't think GOP candidate Mike Jankowski should run unopposed. 'I think people have the right to go into the voting booth and have a choice. It's about serving the public and not about politics.' Jankowski was endorsed by the Republicans and the County Conservatives earlier this spring. He is currently employed as the Wayne County Second Deputy Treasurer. Quinn says he has been trying to learn about the County Clerk's office and thinks he can carry on the work of retiring Clerk Linda Shaffer. 'Nobody likes to have to wait in line or file paperwork, so it will be my job to make it as painless as possible. It's about giving taxpayers the services they pay for with responsibility.' 'I'm looking forward to the campaign. Not being a politician, it should be an interesting experience,' said Quinn. Quinn is a member of a sub-committee on sales reporting for the Real Property Tax Assessment Committee and Past-President and current member of the Wayne County Assessor's Association. He is also affiliated with the Institute of Assessing Officers, the International Institute of Assessing Officers, and the Western NY Chapter IAAO. Copyright
