Sodus & Newark Granges will merge

At the end of June, Sodus Grange #73 will close its doors and merge with the Newark Grange.

For more than 100 years, the Sodus Grange has been serving the Sodus community and has supported many groups and organizations. Now that the Grange is closing, members have decided to give their remaining funds of $10,000 to Mercy Flight Central. Money was turned over to Mercy Flight Central on June 4.

'We take great pride in knowing that this money will play an important part in the lives of everyone who has to use this service,' said Richard Fonda, Master of the Sodus Grange.

'We were very pleased to hear that we had been chosen to receive this major grant,' stated Paul Hyland, President and founder of Mercy Flight Central. Over the years, Mercy Flight Central has received grants from several grange organizations throughout the Finger Lakes region, but never one this large. The grant will go toward the purchase of jet fuel which has doubled in price in the last two years.

'We do most of our transports in the warmer months, and this major grant will buy a lot of much needed fuel,' said Hyland.
